Luxor Eclipse 2027 Tour: 8 Days on a Private Dahabiya, Built Around One Afternoon

There are trips you can move by a week. This isn’t one of them. On 2 August 2027, the Moon’s shadow crosses southern Egypt for 6 minutes and 23 seconds of totality — the longest of the century. Sail the Nile aboard the Turquoise Dahabiya and watch it unfold over Luxor.

There are trips you can move by a week. This isn’t one of them.

On Monday, 2 August 2027, the Moon’s shadow crosses southern Egypt, and Luxor sits close to the centre of that path. For roughly 6 minutes and 23 seconds, the sun disappears over the same riverbank where ancient astronomers once tracked it obsessively. Then it comes back, and the moment is gone for decades.

Which creates an unusual planning problem. Most Egypt itineraries are flexible. This one has a hard deadline measured in minutes, and everything before and after it has to be arranged to make sure you’re standing in the right place at the right hour, unhurried and not stuck in traffic.

That’s the whole design logic behind our Luxor Eclipse 2027 tour at Turquoise Dahabiya. It’s an 8-day, 7-night private Dahabiya sailing that begins in Aswan on 28 July and finishes in Luxor on 4 August, with eclipse day sitting at the centre of the route rather than bolted onto the end. Below is exactly what the journey includes, day by day, along with what’s covered, what isn’t, and what we’d want you to check before booking any Egypt eclipse 2027 tour — ours or anyone else’s.

The Centreline

Why Luxor Is the Address for the 2027 Total Solar Eclipse

Plenty of places will see something on 2 August 2027. Far fewer will see this.

Luxor lies near the centre of the path of totality, which is what buys you the long duration. Move away from the centre line and totality shortens quickly. Egypt’s summer skies in this region are typically clear, and the flat desert horizons on the West Bank give you an open view rather than a sliver of sky between buildings.

Then there’s the setting. You can watch a total eclipse from a car park in a lot of countries. Watching one from the Theban west bank, surrounded by mortuary temples built by people who structured their entire religion around the sun’s daily death and rebirth, is a different kind of experience. We’d argue it’s the reason Luxor eclipse 2027 tours started selling out before most travellers had even checked their 2027 calendars.

For context, the eclipse path on that day crosses parts of Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia. Egypt is simply the segment where long totality, dependable August skies and world-class archaeology overlap.

Tour Details

Your Luxor Eclipse 2027 Tour at a Glance

Join an extraordinary 7-night cruise aboard the elegant Turquoise Dahabiya and experience one of the rarest astronomical events of our lifetime. On 2 August 2027, the Moon’s shadow will pass directly across southern Egypt, creating the longest total solar eclipse visible anywhere on Earth.

This journey combines the wonders of Ancient Egypt with the intimacy of a luxury Dahabiya sailing experience — magnificent temples, legendary archaeological sites, and the eclipse itself from one of the world’s most sought-after viewing locations.

A note on the viewing line: the arrangement is currently listed as Luxor West Bank / Dahabiya, to be confirmed. The final call depends on conditions and access closer to the date. When you enquire, our team will tell you exactly where that stands at the time you ask.

Same with the price. From €3,300 is the published starting figure. Cabin category, occupancy and current availability all affect what you’d actually pay, so the enquiry form is where you get the real number rather than a guess from a web page.

That last line matters more than it looks. We’ll say it plainly: this itinerary is not freely customisable. The sequence exists because the eclipse exists. Minor additions on arrival day are possible, and we’re happy to discuss them, but the spine of the trip stays where it is.

Nile or Land?

Dahabiya or Land-Based? An Honest Comparison

If you’ve been researching 2027 eclipse tour packages, you’ve almost certainly seen land-based itineraries advertised — hotels, coach transfers, internal flights. These exist, and for some travellers they make sense.

We don’t operate any of them. We sail the Nile, and we’d rather be straightforward about that than pretend to be something we’re not. Here’s how the two approaches genuinely differ:

ConsiderationOur Dahabiya CruiseTypical Land-Based Tour
BaseOne boat, unpack onceMultiple hotels, repeated check-ins
Group sizeIntentionally limitedOften larger coach groups
RouteAswan to Luxor by river, including Herdiab Island and DarawRoad and internal flights
Between-visit refugeYour own cabin and deckHotel lobby or coach
Eclipse-day movementAlready positioned on the Luxor sideDepends on transfer timing
Post-eclipse daySail to Qena for DenderaVaries

A cruise gives you a more exclusive and comfortable environment: luxury accommodation, strong sightseeing and a distinctive setting on the Nile, all inside one designed journey. That’s the case for our approach. The case against it is equally simple — if you want maximum itinerary freedom, a fixed-date sailing isn’t the tool for the job.

What’s Included

What’s Included — and What Isn’t

Included

  • Private Dahabiya accommodation, 7 nights (double cabin, en-suite)
  • All meals on board — breakfast, lunch and dinner daily
  • Expert archaeologist guide for all sightseeing
  • Entrance fees to all attractions in the itinerary
  • All transfers in a modern, air-conditioned deluxe vehicle

Not Included

  • Gratuities
  • Any private expenses
  • Alcoholic drinks
The archaeologist guide is worth pausing on. Every site on this itinerary is led by a specialist — not a general guide reading from a script. At Dendera, at Deir el-Medina, in the Valley of the Kings, that difference is the difference between looking at old stone and understanding it.
Entrance fees to all listed attractions are covered, which removes the usual daily arithmetic of Egyptian sightseeing. And all meals are on board, which in early August — when Luxor afternoons take the heat seriously — is a genuine relief.
Anything not on this list — flights, visas, optional extras — isn’t included. Ask us and we’ll tell you exactly what applies to your booking.

Life on Board

Life on Board: Why We Do This on a Dahabiya

A Dahabiya is a traditional sailing vessel, and the practical difference from a large Nile cruiser is guest numbers. Ours carries a limited number of guests, which changes how the days actually feel: no queuing to disembark, no fixed dining rotations, no waiting on 150 other people.

Nile River sailing

Your accommodation is a double cabin with en-suite bathroom for all seven nights, and we offer both Suites and Standard Rooms. All meals are included on board — breakfast, lunch and dinner, every day.

There’s a second advantage that’s specific to eclipse travel. Because the boat is your accommodation, your base moves with you along the route. You unpack once. On a fixed-date trip in an Egyptian August, not shuffling between hotels the day before totality is worth a great deal.

We also structure the sightseeing to work with the season rather than against it: the Abu Simbel excursion is early morning, transfers are in modern air-conditioned deluxe vehicles, and the Dahabiya is there between visits.

Availability is intentionally limited. That’s not a scarcity tactic — it’s the vessel. A Dahabiya carries a small number of guests by design, and for a fixed-date event that cannot be repeated, the arithmetic is simply unforgiving.

Before You Book

What to Check Before Booking Any Egypt Eclipse 2027 Tour

Use this on us. Use it on everyone.

1. Viewing Site

The exact site, confirmed in writing — not “Luxor” as a general region.

2. Totality Duration

Expected duration at that site, since it varies with position.

3. Group Size

Whether the number is capped, and what the actual maximum is.

4. Accommodation

Where you sleep on 1 and 2 August, and how far that is from the viewing point.

5. Heat Arrangements

For a midday event in an Egyptian August — shade, water, rest breaks.

6. Internal Flights

Included, arranged, or on you?

7. Cancellation Terms

In full — deposit schedule and refund policy.

8. Eclipse Glasses

Whether ISO-certified eclipse glasses are supplied, or whether you’re bringing your own.

On that last point, the safety rule doesn’t change regardless of who you book with: certified eclipse glasses are required during every partial phase. They come off only during totality itself, and go straight back on the instant the sun reappears. Those six minutes are the only unfiltered ones you get.

Timing

A Word on Timing Your Booking

We’d rather be useful than dramatic here, so we’ll give you the reasoning instead of a countdown clock.

The longest solar eclipse of the century happens once. Dahabiya capacity is small by design, and we keep it that way deliberately — the exclusivity of the journey is the product. Demand for Luxor in that specific week is global and has been building for years, with some operators already reporting fully booked departures. Availability tightens as the date approaches, and it doesn’t loosen again.

So the honest advice is: if this journey appeals to you, start the conversation now rather than in 2027. Even if you’re still deciding, knowing what’s actually available is better than guessing.
