Why a Dahabiya changes the value equation
A Dahabiya is a traditional wooden sailing boat. Small, quiet, driven by the wind rather than an engine the size of a bus. Our cruises carry a maximum of 16 guests, which means your guide is speaking to you — not projecting across a crowd.
That small scale does something useful for your wallet, too. Because the boat moves slowly and sits shallow, it can moor at islands and villages the big floating hotels sail straight past. Maniha Island. Bassao Island. Al Fawza. Badr Village. You’re not paying extra for optional excursions to reach these places. They’re simply on the way.
Think of it this way: on a large ship, the river is the corridor between attractions. On a Dahabiya, the river is the attraction.

The kayaking at Gebel El Silsila deserves a mention. Sandstone cliffs on both sides, rock-cut shrines above you, and you’re at water level. It’s the sort of moment that doesn’t appear in the brochure photography of a 200-cabin ship, mostly because a 200-cabin ship can’t stop there.

The extra day buys you El Kab — one of Upper Egypt’s oldest settlements, once the capital of the Kingdom of Nekheb, and a site most standard itineraries never touch.

3. Elegant Scape — Private Dahabiya Nile Cruise, 7 Days
From €1,500 · 6 nights · Luxor to Aswan, the long way round
This one sails north first, to Qena and Dendera, before turning back and heading south to Aswan. That detour is the whole point — Dendera’s Temple of Hathor is one of Egypt’s best-preserved monuments, and it sits well outside the standard cruise corridor.

Daraw camel market on day six is one of those stops we’d struggle to describe convincingly in a paragraph. Traders, camels, negotiation as performance art. It’s loud, it’s real, and it’s a long way from a gift shop.
At €1,500 for six nights — roughly €250 a night with every meal, guide, ticket and transfer folded in — this is arguably the strongest cost-per-experience ratio in our range.

On Monday, 2 August 2027, the Moon’s shadow crosses southern Egypt and produces 6 minutes and 23 seconds of totality over Luxor — the longest total solar eclipse visible anywhere on Earth this century. Maximum eclipse lands at approximately 1:10 PM.
We sail it as an 8-day, 7-night journey from Aswan to Luxor, dated 28 July to 4 August 2027.

Frequently asked questions
Are international flights included in your Egypt tour packages?
No. Our packages are land-and-river only. On the Royal Nile Escape we state this explicitly: international and domestic airfare is excluded.
Do these packages include a Nile cruise?
Every one of them is a Nile cruise. There’s no separate hotel-plus-cruise juggling act — the boat is your accommodation for 3 to 13 nights depending on the package.
How long are your Egypt tour packages?
From 4 days up to 14. The 4-day and 5-day cruises suit travellers with limited time; the 11-day and 14-day journeys suit those who want Middle Egypt and Cairo included.
Can I customise my package?
Our cruises follow set routes, but we’re a small team and we do talk to every traveller individually. The Serenity Retreat offers an optional Abu Simbel excursion. The Eclipse Cruise allows minor additions on arrival day only, because eclipse timing cannot be negotiated with the Moon. Tell us what you’re hoping for when you enquire.
Are your cruises suitable for solo travellers, couples and small groups?
With a maximum of 16 guests, a licensed archaeologist guide throughout, and transfers handled door to door, our cruises work well for couples, honeymooners, families and small groups alike. Two cabin categories give you room to choose how you’d like to travel.
What’s the difference between your packages and a standard Nile cruise?
Scale and access. A Dahabiya sails by wind, carries a fraction of the passengers, and moors at islands and villages the large fleet passes by — El Kab, Bassao, Maniha, Garagos, Al Fawza.
When should I book?
As early as you reasonably can, and considerably earlier for the Eclipse Cruise 2027, where availability is intentionally limited.
