Nile Cruises 2026: Sail Egypt Slowly, on a Private Dahabiya
Most people planning Nile cruises 2026 start in the same place: a search results page full of boats that all look faintly identical. Sun deck, pool, buffet, five stars, four nights. Somewhere around the ninth tab, a reasonable question arrives — is this the only way to see the Nile?
It isn’t. We’re Turquoise Dahabiya, and we sail a traditional wooden dahabiya between Luxor and Aswan with a maximum of sixteen guests aboard. No engine noise, no deck announcements, no queue for anything. The boat moors at night beside villages and islands, and the temples happen at a pace that lets you actually remember them.
This page is a straight comparison of our 2026 sailing programmes: how long each one runs, which route it takes, what it costs from, and who it tends to suit. Where we can confirm a detail, you’ll find it below. Where we can’t — sailing dates, cabin availability, your final price — we’ll point you to the enquiry form rather than guess on your behalf.

Dahabiya or 5-Star Cruise Ship? An Honest Answer
This is the fork in the road for anyone comparing Nile cruises 2026, so let’s be clear about what we are and aren’t.
A dahabiya is a traditional Nile sailing boat. Ours is private and capped at sixteen guests on the 7-day programme, which changes almost everything about how the week feels. There’s no fixed group schedule shared with a few hundred strangers. There’s no engine drone under the deck for six hours a day. And because a small sailing boat draws less water, it can tie up in places large vessels simply cannot reach.
What that buys you, specifically:
- Private sailing with bespoke service. The rhythm of the week belongs to your group.
- Villages as well as temples. Riverside stops like Garagos and island moorings sit alongside Karnak and Edfu on our routes.
- Spacious cabins and elegant shared spaces. Room to be sociable, room to disappear with a book.
- Full board with a gourmet touch. Breakfast, lunch and dinner aboard, every day.
- Quiet nights moored beside ancient ground. Genuinely the strongest argument for the format.
And the honest counterweight: a large 5-star Nile cruise ship gives you a swimming pool, a bigger public deck, and departures on a fixed weekly grid. If those things top your list, a big vessel may be the better fit, and we’d rather tell you that than sell you the wrong week. If what you want is a small, quiet, private boat that stops where the crowds don’t, keep reading.
The sixteen-guest test
Ask yourself how many people you want to share seven days with. A large Nile vessel carries the population of a small village. Ours carries roughly the number you’d invite to a good dinner party — and on a private charter, only the people you brought with you.
Nile Cruise Luxor to Aswan 2026, or Aswan to Luxor?
Travellers agonise over direction far more than they need to. You see the same river and, on most itineraries, the same temples. What actually changes is where you start, where you finish, and how the trip slots around your flights.
Here’s how our 2026 programmes run:
| Direction | Programmes | Good reason to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Luxor → Aswan | Serenity Retreat (5 days), Elegant Scape (7 days) | You want the big Luxor sites first, then finish south in Aswan |
| Aswan → north | Sacred Waters (4 days, ending Esna), Golden Horizons (14 days, to Cairo) | You’re flying into Aswan, or heading north afterwards |
| Luxor → Cairo | Royal Nile Escape (11 days) | You want to sail rather than fly between Upper Egypt and the capital |
Our dahabiya operates in both directions, so if a programme is listed one way and you’d prefer the reverse, raise it in your enquiry and we’ll confirm what’s possible for your dates. The 7-day Elegant Scape is the odd one out in a good way: it opens with a northern leg to Qena before turning south, which is how Dendera lands in the same week as Kom Ombo and Philae.
How Many Days Do You Actually Need?
The most useful question in Nile cruise planning, and the one most booking pages skip.
4 days — Sacred Waters
Our shortest sailing, running from Aswan up to Esna. It’s the natural choice if the cruise is one chapter of a larger Egypt trip rather than the whole story, or if you only have a long weekend to give the river.
5 days — Serenity Retreat
Luxor or Esna down to Aswan. Enough nights aboard for the boat to stop feeling like transport and start feeling like the trip. This is the sweet spot for couples working around a one-week holiday.
7 days — Elegant Scape
Seven days, six nights aboard, capped at sixteen guests, from €1,500. You unpack once and stay unpacked. The northern loop to Qena adds Dendera, and the southern run brings in Esna, El Kab, Edfu, El Selsela, Kom Ombo and Philae. If you’re a first-time visitor deciding how long a Dahabiya Nile cruise 2026 should be, this is where most people land.
11 and 14 days — Royal Nile Escape and Golden Horizons
Both continue all the way to Cairo. Eleven days from Luxor, fourteen from Aswan. These are for travellers who’d rather watch Egypt change through a cabin window than see it from a departure lounge. Note that Royal Nile Escape runs on a minimum of ten confirmed bookings, so it’s worth enquiring early if it’s the one you want.
Nile Cruise Prices 2026: What the Number Covers
Prices across our 2026 programmes start at €750 for four days and reach €3,500 for fourteen. The gap between “from” and “final” is where most travellers get caught out on cruise comparisons, so here’s exactly how ours works, using the 7-day Elegant Scape as the worked example.
| Included in the price | Not included |
|---|---|
| Full board throughout — breakfast, lunch and dinner | Gratuities |
| Expert archaeologist guide on all sightseeing tours | Alcoholic drinks |
| Entrance fees to every attraction listed in the itinerary | Any private expenses |
| All transfers in a modern, air-conditioned deluxe vehicle | |
| Complimentary soft drinks throughout the journey | |
| Onboard activities and evening entertainment |
Two lines in that left-hand column deserve more attention than they usually get.
Entrance fees. Egypt ticket prices are charged site by site, and a week of temples and tombs adds up quickly. Having them bundled means no daily cash arithmetic at the gate and no unpleasant surprises three days in.
The guide. Yours is an expert archaeologist who accompanies the sightseeing, rather than a general escort who hands you over to whoever is free at each site. Across a dozen monuments, that’s the difference between looking at stones and reading them.
Inclusions vary by programme, so treat the table above as the shape of what we do rather than a universal contract. For your specific sailing — cabin category, party size, travel window, and whether flights or Cairo nights can be arranged around the cruise — use the enquiry form and we’ll confirm rather than estimate.
What You’ll See Along the River
Temples first, because that’s what brings most people to the Nile in the first place.
Karnak and Luxor Temple open the 7-day route on day one. Karnak’s columns don’t translate to photographs; the scale only registers when you’re standing under them. Luxor Temple, a short distance south, reads like a war diary carved into wall after wall.
Dendera, reached on the northern leg to Qena, is dedicated to Hathor and among the best-preserved temple complexes in the country. The ceilings alone justify sailing the wrong way for a day. Nearby, the riverside village of Garagos offers the unstaged version of Egypt that sits quietly alongside the monumental one.
On the West Bank, the Valley of the Kings holds painted burial chambers cut deep into rock, and Hatshepsut’s Temple rises from the cliffs in clean terraces — a monument to a woman who ruled as king. It’s the day the history stops being general and gets personal.
Sailing south, the river gives you Esna and its lock — slow, oddly compelling river theatre with local life on both banks — then the cliff tombs of El Kab, the near-complete Edfu Temple, the sandstone quarries of El Selsela that supplied half the monuments you’ve already seen, and Kom Ombo, unusual for being split between Sobek the crocodile and Horus the falcon. The camel market at Daraw plays out at full volume, and the week closes at Philae Temple, standing alone on its island outside Aswan.
Between the temples come the moorings that don’t appear on big-ship itineraries at all: Imam Island, Bassao Island, Herdiab Island. Remote, silent, and about as good as Nile stargazing gets.
The Best Time for a Nile Cruise in 2026
Broadly, Egypt’s cooler months — October through April — are the most comfortable for full days at temples and tombs. Summer is considerably hotter, and heat matters more than most first-timers expect when you’re walking uneven tomb paths at midday.
That makes October, November and December 2026, along with January 2027, the busiest window for enquiries. If you’re aiming at winter dates, earlier is better: we run one boat with a small number of cabins, so availability closes in a way it doesn’t on a fleet of large vessels.
One more date worth marking. Our Egypt Solar Eclipse Cruise is timed around the total solar eclipse over Luxor on 2 August 2027, sailing 28 July to 4 August, with viewing on the Luxor West Bank. It’s outside 2026, but travellers who care about it tend to book years ahead — which is why it sits on this page at all.
Who Our 2026 Sailings Suit Best
- Couples and honeymooners. Private sailing, quiet moorings, dinner on deck, and nobody calling bingo numbers. The format does most of the romance work without being asked.
- Families. A lock crossing, a camel market, tombs in a cliff face — history in a form children actually engage with. Tell us your children’s ages and we’ll advise on cabins.
- Small groups and private charters. Sixteen guests is the ceiling on the 7-day programme, so a group of family or friends can take the entire boat.
- Solo travellers. Small-boat sociability, without the obligation of it.
- First-time visitors to Egypt. The headline sites are all on the route, plus the quiet places most first-timers never hear about.
Booking from the UK, USA, Canada or Australia
Most of our guests fly in from a long way away, and the questions are consistent enough to answer here.
Flights. International and domestic flights aren’t part of the cruise prices listed on this page. If you’d like us to look at arranging travel around your sailing, say so in your enquiry and we’ll tell you what’s possible rather than what’s convenient.
Cairo and Giza. The 4, 5 and 7-day programmes sail between Luxor and Aswan, so the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum aren’t inside them. Many travellers add Cairo before or after; our 11 and 14-day programmes build the capital into the journey itself.
Timing your enquiry. Because one boat with limited cabins can’t stretch, the practical advice is to enquire with two or three possible date ranges rather than one. It’s a small thing that makes a large difference to what we can offer you.
Nile Cruise Tours 2026: Choose Your Sailing
Every programme below runs on the same private dahabiya, with full board and an archaeologist guide. What changes is the length, the route, and how much of Egypt you see from the water.
7 Days Elegant Scape
Luxor → Qena → AswanOur flagship week, and the most complete answer to “which Nile cruise should I book in 2026?”. Six nights aboard, a northern detour to Dendera, then the classic southern temple run to Philae.
5 Days Serenity Retreat
Luxor / Esna → AswanThe five-day version of the same river. Long enough to settle into the rhythm of sailing, short enough to sit inside a standard one-week holiday without swallowing it whole.
4 Days Sacred Waters
Aswan → EsnaOur shortest sailing and the easiest to bolt onto a wider Egypt trip. It runs northward from Aswan, so it works neatly for travellers already heading up towards Luxor.
11 Days Royal Nile Escape
Luxor → CairoEleven days spent sailing north rather than flying it. The river becomes the connective tissue of the whole trip instead of one segment inside it, finishing in the capital.
14 Days Golden Horizons
Aswan → CairoTwo full weeks covering the length of the country by water, from the southern reaches at Aswan through to Cairo. The slowest, and by some distance the most complete, way to do this.
8 Days · 2027 Egypt Solar Eclipse Cruise
Aswan → Luxor → QenaTimed around the total solar eclipse over Luxor on 2 August 2027, sailing 28 July to 4 August with viewing on the Luxor West Bank. Limited to 12 guests.
